Naming of each facility

Hall A [Waldstein]

  • Waldstein, comte Ferdinand Ernst von (1762-1823)
    Music lover, he was one of Beethoven’s main patrons in Bonn. He is known as being the first to have really praised Beethoven’s genius. In 1805, Beethoven dedicated to him his piano sonata op. 53.

Hall B7 [Brentano]

  • Brentano, Antonia (1780-1869)
    Friend of Beethoven, she is most likely the addressee of his letter to the « immortal beloved » written in 1812. In 1823, he dedicated to her the Diabelli Variations.

Hall B5 [2] [Holz]

  • Holz, Karl (1798-1868)
    Employee at the Chancellry of Lower Austria and talented violinist, he became 2nd violin in Schuppanzigh’s quartet in 1824 and became friend with Beethoven the following summer. During about one year, he was, on a friendly basis, principal assistant and secretary to the composer. Beethoven wrote for him two canons (WoO 197 et 198). He seemed to have been very fond of him.

Hall C [Kreutzer]

  • Kreutzer, Rodolphe (1766-1831)
    Famous French violinist. He went to Vienna in 1798. In 1805, Beethoven dedicated to him his violin sonata op. 47.

Hall D7 [Razumovsky]

  • Razumovsky, comte Andreas Kirilovich (1752-1836)
    Art collector, music lover and Russian ambassador in Vienna. In 1806, he commissioned the 3 quartets op 59, known as “Razumovsky quartets”. During a few years, he supported the string quartet conducted by Schuppanzigh, in which he sometimes played the part of 2nd violin. Beethoven dedicated to him his quartets op. 59 as well as symphonies 5 and 6, jointly with Prince Lobkowitz.

Exhibition Hall [1] [Fidelio]

  • Fidelio
    Beethoven’s opera in 2 acts. Leonora, disguised as a young man, manages, under the name of Fidelio, to enter the jail where her husband Florestan is unjustly held prisoner by the tyrant Pizarro and to set him free.

Mitsuo Aida Museum [Erdödy]

  • Erdödy, comtess Marie
    She belongs to a very ancient family and leaves a mark in history because Beethoven dedicated to her the 2 Trios op. 70 and the 2 cello Sonatas op. 102. Half paralysed but passionate music lover, excellent pianist, she was more than a patron, a dearest friend whom he sometimes called "father confessor".
